Stargate Game:
The pictures of the character that you play as in one of the corners of the screen. I was wondering if you can turn that off? Can you turn the character pictures off?
Ben Lenzo:
No. They don’t always appear. They will only appear when you select those particular characters.

Stargate Game:
Clans for online play, has this been thought of at all?
Ben Lenzo:
No basically what we’re doing at the moment is concentrating on the single player stuff. All the multi-player stuff is actually in there. It’s all in there, it’s not tuned, it’s not overly well tested either.
Stargate Game:
This question goes on to say, If so how will they be handled? For example will they be like StarCraft where players change their names and add their tags in, or will it be more like WarCraft 3 you need 10 people to start a clan and each realm can only have a clan name appear once, removing the issue shared clan names?
Ben Lenzo:
No I wouldn’t have thought so.
Viljar Sommerbakk:
All of these things we considered, there are a few things we don’t want to lock ourselves into and I think we probably shouldn’t answer.
Ben Lenzo:
The other thing is, on the multi-player stuff, it’s also going to depend on what the new publisher is going to want to see as well. Because it’s based on Unreal, we have the flexibility to do kinda do whatever we want multi-player wise.
Stargate Game:
So once the new publisher says we want X, Y and Z, that’s when you start?
Ben Lenzo:
Once we get a new publisher on board, we’ll go over all the relevant issues and we’ll say this is what we’d like to do and they’ll say this is what we’d like to do and we’ll work out the best way to go forward, based on the time it’s going to take and the resources it’s going to take to do it.

Stargate Game:
Post-development. Will Perception continue to develop the product after its initial release as far as patches, updates, new maps etc?
Ben Lenzo:
It shouldn’t release requiring a patch. But if it does, then yeah we will, and we already have plans, although we are not able to discuss them for post-release maps and what not.

Stargate Game:
In the trailer and at least one screenshot shows Ra's pyramid. Can you confirm or deny that Ra's pyramid is in the game?
Viljar Sommerbakk:
Well, hmm that was the Abydos, that’s… that’s Abydos we never said it was Ra’s pyramid
Ben Lenzo:
One thing on the trailer, a lot of people have said all that stuff’s pre-rendered. The only stuff that is pre-rendered is right after the credit
Viljar Sommerbakk:
It’s only when you see the Haaken, I think
Ben Lenzo:
Yeah, just the Haaken, everything else is actually in game, in the engine, real time.

Stargate Game:
Are you able to lay prone and shoot a weapon?
Viljar Sommerbakk:
You can crouch, to steady a weapon and be more accurate, you can also, for further accuracy, aim, which is sort of the iron aim (iron sights) without taking away half the screen.
Stargate Game:
So that’s no. Okay.

Stargate Game:
Are iron sights included at all or do we have the one set of cross hairs?
Viljar Sommerbakk:
The cross hairs at the moment are just standard; we haven’t finalized that part of it.
Ben Lenzo:
But it is unlikely we will be using iron sights
Viljar Sommerbakk:
We’re not using iron sights per se.

Stargate Game:
How extensive is the SGC in terms of game play? So …
Ben Lenzo:
One room, that’s it.
Stargate Game:
No, I think what they want to know is, a lot of people want to know about free roam and all that sort of stuff, can you run around the SGC
Ben Lenzo:
There are a number of different rooms in the SGC. You can run throughout the SGC. The SGC is fairly extensive and forms the basis for a number of missions.

Stargate Game:
Are you bringing the game out on CD ROM only or will there be a DVD version? If so, will the DVD have any extra special features?
Ben Lenzo:
A special feature edition is something we have looked at with MGM. Whether it is going to be out on DVD alone or CD is going to be up to the publisher.

Stargate Game:
Is Co-Op limited to 4 players at a time only? I mean four members of the team so is it only those 4 or …
Viljar Sommerbakk:
We’re currently umm, no we can’t really disclose information about the co-op play
Ben Lenzo:
It wasn’t planned that way. It was planned that you could have any number of players but we’re re-assessing that the moment. We’re reassessing that functionality at the moment.

Stargate Game:
In multi-player, can you play non-human characters, for example can you play as a Jaffa or Goa’uld? If so can you make use of personal shields and things like that?
Viljar Sommerbakk:
You can play as other characters than humans. You can play as Jaffa. As for shields we have a number of interesting features.
Ben Lenzo:
Yep. There’s some additional elements we’ve added to the single player game. That can form the basis for shields in multi-player should we elect to do so.

Stargate Game:
Can you play a Haaken in multiplayer?
Ben Lenzo:
I would expect as a general rule, any of the characters you see in the single player game, if you wanted to you could select a skin.
Viljar Sommerbakk:
The jury is still out, but we certainly haven’t ruled it out.

Stargate Game:
So potentially then the modders can get in there and create …
Viljar Sommerbakk:
I’m sure the modders can do anything.
Ben Lenzo:
Well it’s a very modder friendly engine yeah.
Stargate Game:
So they can create the Asgard for example.
Viljar Sommerbakk:
I’m sure that if we don’t have it when it’s released, it’ll be in there.
Ben Lenzo:
We might give you the Asgard.
Stargate Game:
Now I believe Thor is in there? Michael Shanks has said he recoded Thor’s voice
Ben Lenzo:
Stick that up your Asgard!
Stargate Game:
Is that what he says?
Ben Lenzo:
Direct quote.

Stargate Game:
How much dialogue was recorded during the actors voice overs. Has it all been used in the game?
Ben Lenzo:
There was, I think there was about 40 hours, 40 - 50 hours give or take.
Stargate Game:
Combined obviously?
VS and
Ben Lenzo:
Yeah
Ben Lenzo:
Actually that excluded the battle chatter. We did the Haaken stuff here, we did the Jaffa stuff here, we did the tutorial here, so there is probably 45 to 55 hours of dialogue
Stargate Game:
Of dialogue?
Ben Lenzo:
Sorry, 45 – 55 hours of recording and then obviously that then gets edited down
Stargate Game:
So not all of it is going to be included?
Viljar Sommerbakk:
A lot of it is re-takes and stuff. 4 or 5 different ways of saying one thing and we pick the one that’s best.

Stargate Game:
You said Haaken (pronounced Harken), I pronounce it Hayken, that's wrong?
Viljar Sommerbakk:
Haaken
Ben Lenzo:
It’s Goold, I mean Go-oold, I mean Gow-oold
Ben Lenzo:
it’s Haaken (Harken)
Ben Lenzo:
No, it’s (spells it out) H A A K E N
Stargate Game:
Pronounced Harken
Ben Lenzo:
Pronounced Harken

Stargate Game:
Ancients were shown to be on the list of characters, will they be playable at all?
Ben Lenzo:
They’re in the game
Stargate Game:
The concern there is that potentially in multi-player, with the ancient’s abilities that you can go “right I’m an ancient you’re all dead!”
Ben Lenzo:
No it can’t. Obviously not. I mean that doesn’t necessarily mean you wont be able to select a skin, the skin of an ancient and have her run around with her missile launcher as an example, you know you may be able to select Oma, but she wont, if the ancients are in there she wont have ancient abilities per se.

Stargate Game:
In single player you only play team members of SG1 or do you expand beyond that? Or are you not going to tell me that one?
Ben Lenzo:
Previously no we wouldn’t have told you but now we can say no it’s only SG1. That wasn’t always the case though. Up until about 2 months ago.

Stargate Game:
Are you able to dial the DHD? On that note are there any Easter eggs planned eg, secret areas via address's from the show or ones never before seen? As you said to be me before, if they’re Easter eggs, we’re not telling you.
Ben Lenzo:
Exactly ... we need to keep some secrets

Stargate Game:
How much does Perception itself as the developer plan to support the modding community, many big titles these days see a lot of developer support to the larger mod teams, not only is it a way to scout talent but also away to boost sales and longevity of the game.
Ben Lenzo:
We’re actually already working with a number of external modders and level editors and what not. We are supporting it to the Nth degree. Upon release. Well before the JoWood side of things, before release we weren’t necessarily sure we would have all the documentation out with release, and if it wasn’t it would have been a matter of weeks later, because there are some significant changes to the Unreal engine that we’ve made that need to be documented so the modders can take advantage of all this stuff. So we will definitely be supporting the modding community and we actively want their involvement. I mean that’s one of the things that came about from Stargate CTF was, well hang on if we just create the lego blocks together, these guys can just go nuts and create you know, half a planet that’s under water and half a planet that’s in a desert, connected by a gate and they can you know fight each other, so the modding community has been at the forefront of, uh in our thoughts the whole time.

Stargate Game:
Will there be a public Beta test, if so, will Australia be included?
Ben Lenzo:
Uncertain at this time.

Stargate Game:
Will there be downloadable content? Additional maps and things like that.
Ben Lenzo:
Again a number of these things are up in the air, based on what happens with the new publisher.
Viljar Sommerbakk:
Well like we said there are some things we would like to do. I mean certainly [that’s] something that we are considering.
Viljar Sommerbakk:
You know “Upgrades?”
Stargate Game:
With the gloves or whatever they were on their arm?
Ben Lenzo:
Yep
Viljar Sommerbakk:
That’s one of the things we discussed.
Ben Lenzo:
You know there was one we wanted to do were, this is not to say it’s definitely on the cards, but you might be playing a traditional death match level and a [replicator] ship with crash land in the level and you have to decide whether you team up to get rid of the replicators or you just hope the replicators go for the other team before the first team. You know there is a number of things like that, that we had and we just had to pick a couple so that’s one of the ones that didn’t make it in, but who knows what will happen after release.

Stargate Game:
Does the game support High Definition, as in 1080i and widescreen?
Ben Lenzo:
No it doesn’t support 1080i or widescreen.
Viljar Sommerbakk:
No

Stargate Game:
Will the game have dedicated servers or is it P2P run?
Ben Lenzo:
It will require dedicated servers.
Ben Lenzo:
Oh, well you will be able to get in a LAN but most of them will be run off servers.
Ben Lenzo:
That’s normally a publisher thing, that’s a publisher thing. Some of the publishers have different deals with different parties, but from our perspective, we can run it either way.
Stargate Game:
It’s coded to run either way depending on the publisher’s wishes?
Ben Lenzo:
Yep, and again a lot of the multiplayer stuff the back end stuff is all out of Unreal. So pretty much whatever Unreal can do this can do.

Stargate Game:
How many weapons can you hold at one time? For example, if Carter has the ribbon device, can she also hold the pistol at the same time?
Ben Lenzo:
Nope

Stargate Game:
In multiplayer will you be able to pick up weapons once you’ve killed someone?
Viljar Sommerbakk:
Yeah
Viljar Sommerbakk:
I’d like to expand a little bit on what you said about the two weapons at the one time. I mean obviously, you can only fire one weapon at one time but you can obviously carry with you more weapons. So for instance you can carry a pistol, a P90 and a sniper rifle no problem, and grenades and things like that. But you can’t have both a P90 and shotgun at the same time because basically what we said is we have medium, small and large weapons and they take up one slot each.
Ben Lenzo:
In multi player presumably, death match, you’ll be able to have a selection of ten weapons, if ten weapons are in there. But, the theory behind the single player stuff is SG1 don’t carry around every weapon every time they go out. So we said okay they can only carry a certain amount and we came up with how we determine what they can and cant carry.
Viljar Sommerbakk:
Bascially, if you have pockets you can usually take it with you, like the grenades, C4 stuff like that, because you can always hide those away and explain those away but you can’t carry ten different rifles.
Ben Lenzo:
Yeah a sniper rifle, a staff weapon, a P90, a zat, a rocket launcher

Stargate Game:
Will we have and be able to use GDO's?
Ben Lenzo:
The GDO’s are something at this stage that happens automatically. It something that I think originally we had that you had to do it at the end of each mission but then it kind of became one of those things were
Stargate Game:
It would become boring after a while?
Ben Lenzo:
Well they did the same thing on the show.
Viljar Sommerbakk:
You never see them, you see them for a split second okay they still have it, like one in every ten episodes or something
Ben Lenzo:
It’s one of those things were it sounds cool but when you actually do it time and time and time and time again.

Stargate Game:
Once released, Will you monitor Xbox Live & PC Online game play like Bungie do and provide countermeasures for cheating? Will the game support punk buster?
Ben Lenzo:
Again that’s going to be a decision that’s made with the publisher.

Stargate Game:
What is the reason behind not having player controlled flying vehicles?
Ben Lenzo:
The reason behind it is unfortunately we can’t do everything in game. We had flying vehicles …
Viljar Sommerbakk:
They are still in and they work but we don’t want to build the game around that because you can’t just take a vehicle and you have to fly it but wait a minute I need someone to fly, oh yeah I need disarm enemies first. We have it in, it’s working but don’t want to focus on it this time around.
Ben Lenzo:
There are still enemy vehicles that are flying but there aren’t player control ones.
Viljar Sommerbakk:
There’s a lot of death glider fly bys and Tel’Taks and Alkesh’s and mother ships and you know they are there and a danger but not something you can control.
Ben Lenzo:
Well the other thing, there is a cool image, it’s actually one of my favourite images in the whole game. When we have Anubis returns to Langara for something, which is revealed in the game there is dog fights so you have this image of these 1940’s technology planes up against the death gliders and it’s just a great images because these guys have no hope in hell of winning but they’re doing it anyway you know. It’s just a great image and it just happened.

Stargate Game:
That’s a cut scene is it or is it …
Ben Lenzo:
No it’s in game. I mean all this stuff happens while you’re running around doing whatever you have to do. That’s not quite, half way, maybe a third of the way into the game when that happens.
Ben Lenzo:
We didn’t want to do something that we weren’t going to be able to do really really well and the flying vehicles I think were player controlled in one or two missions, so out of God knows how many, so it wasn’t something we could justify spending so much time for only a little return to the player, so we spent out energies on stuff we knew the players were going to use all the time.

Stargate Game:
Can you shed any light on the rumour that Vivendi is the new publisher?
Ben Lenzo:
Sure! But I choose not to. We haven’t announced a publishing partner at this stage.

Stargate Game:
For the xbox how many options are in the game like sound, control configurations, enabling/disabling series-version of dialling or movie-version of dialling (one chevron or each one locks), enabling/disabling the grenade guideline that was revealed recently, etc
Ben Lenzo:
Eleven and a half

Stargate Game:
Will there be encoded cheats like hidden stuff - levels, weapons upgrades, gag reels, passwords/button codes, etc?
Ben Lenzo:
Yeah, it’s safe to say most games have that.

Stargate Game:
What was your proudest moment during development of the game as far as progress and such or goofs found in the game that had to be fixed?
Ben Lenzo:
For me the thing I dug the most was actually the story and the script and the voice recording and all that stuff, cause there’s some gold in them there hills, and the actors just nailed it. Peter DeLuise did our voice direction and he was just a complete legend. That to me was the single biggest buzz I got out of it, but with the game specifically, is actually that image I mentioned before where the B52’s, or their not B52’s but you know those 1940’s planes, it was just literally by chance to capture that screen shot and that’s an image that’s always stuck with me.
Viljar Sommerbakk:
I just love the backing track to this, I’m really happy with that and particularly when you hear Carter go “you just got your ass kicked by a girl.”
Ben Lenzo:
Yeah there is some good battle tracks.
Stargate Game:
Was that sort of stuff scripted or did they let fly with whatever
Ben Lenzo:
We had some of it scripted but they just went for it. Because what we did was we got all the stuff we needed then we said right off you go, do what want to do.
Viljar Sommerbakk:
Then there was a lot we couldn’t keep
Ben Lenzo:
Sadly there was.
Viljar Sommerbakk:
there would be a lot of beep beep beep if we kept everything
Stargate Game:
So come on is that going to be an Easter egg?
Ben Lenzo:
I would actually love to release some of that stuff if we’re allowed, then yeah I think we would. Even some of the taunts, like we’re going to have to make sure we are able to.
Viljar Sommerbakk:
We don’t want to offend anyone basically you know if they say something funny it’s like was it meant for public release or was it just goofing around?
Ben Lenzo:
Exactly, but yeah some of the taunts are good. And the thing is the great thing about the battle chatter is they can come in with something you haven’t heard. Even now, there is lots of stuff in there, so every now and then something will happen and they’ll kill someone and they’ll say something and you’ll go “gee haven’t heard that before that was funny”. So it doesn’t get repeated which is one of the big bugbears.

Ben Lenzo:
The Haaken are going to be very very cool.
Stargate Game:
They speak English? Do they talk?
Ben Lenzo:
Yeah they talk
Viljar Sommerbakk:
They do
Ben Lenzo:
They do talk. They do have their own language. There is some English though. The main Haaken character speaks both.
Stargate Game:
That’s the female?
Ben Lenzo:
That’s the female
Stargate Game:
Just going on the E3 trailer
Ben Lenzo:
Yeah that’s alright we put that at the end of the trailer for a reason and there will be a new trailer before release. Which will cover some other… there will be some sneak previews of some other things in that as well. But the Haaken are a cool enemy and they are something that we are going to use in other Stargate games as well.

Stargate Game:
Where did the story come from?
Stargate Game:
It’s yours is it?
Ben Lenzo:
Yeah and I was thinking about this the other day because someone else asked me. I came up with the story line and the idea of the Haaken and who they were and what they did but there was a change that was made part way through. Well when we first started in active production we did make a change to the story line that just simplified it, because it, even now it’s a fairly complex story line and you don’t have to understand Stargate but you still have to pay attention and it was something that actually Rob Cooper goes “well hang on why are you doing it that way why don’t you just go blah?” So we did and everything just slotted into place. The story line is something that anyone that’s familiar with Stargate will get a lot out of it because they’ll go oh hang on they’ve referenced that and they’ve taken that little nugget of information from that and they’ve expanded on that and used it this way etc etc. So the Haaken is something that could very well be on the TV series and you wouldn’t notice them out of place at all.

Stargate Game:
You mentioned you had some things lined up for other Stargate games, there’s more coming? Or are you hoping there are more coming?
Ben Lenzo:
We are in the very early stages of another product already.
Stargate Game:
Another Stargate product?
Ben Lenzo:
Another Stargate product and we will be discussing that with the relevant parties shortly.

Stargate Game:
What’s the future for Perception?
Ben Lenzo:
Well, we’re working on Stargate as you know. We are working on another licensed product, finalising everything involved with that. But we won’t be announcing that one for quite some time. This will probably be our last product on current gen platforms and we’ll move on after that. I was going to mention something else about the Stargate game but I cant.
Stargate Game:
Oh come on.
Ben Lenzo:
No I can’t I was going to talk about it if there is an SG1 and that type of thing but …
Stargate Game:
Well the assumption is there is going to be an Atlantis style game but whether that’s next or third down the list, but the assumption has to be there will be one based on Atlantis eventually.
Ben Lenzo:
Yeah I think the torch is passing. I haven’t heard what they are doing next year, if SG1 is coming back or not I don’t know.

Stargate Game:
Alright I think that’s about it, thank you very much I really appreciate the opportunity to come and play.
Viljar Sommerbakk:
So what did you think?
